Earth's Affront to the Moon

Moon, you are a mere satellite
That happens to be quite bright
For this we are full of awe
Looking up from the floor.
As surely as you shine, reflect and illuminate
We foolishly seek to align ourselves with your fate,
Yet me and my big brother the sun
Can easily out-do you, with better pun.
Moon, you are just fine for a rhyme
But, I for one, will not be one to pine,
Please continue to hide your backside
As you interfere with our tides.

Phillip Wigan

The Moon replies...

Forget me then, I'll turn my back
And take with me the waves.
Enjoy your swims in the still, still sea
You'll miss your previous bathes.
No more dancing in the moonlight,
No more fly me to the moon
Who needs blue moons and moonshadows...
You'll forget them pretty soon.
I'll leave in peace, and take away
The moonlight, strong and tall.
Enjoy your walks in the dark, dark night,
Don't curse me when you fall.
The star will lose a little shine
The sea will not be seen
The world will be a darker place
You asked for it, not me!
